Please note that the form is not open yet. Online applications start on 30 November 2026 and you can apply by 29 December 2026. Only domicile holders of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir can apply. | Applications Open | 30 November 2026 |

The post name is the same in both items, but they are different vacancies in different departments. The Jal Shakti post is item 266 and the PWD (R&B) post is item 267. Do not mix them up. The notification prints the category split for each item, so check your own row.
| Department and Item | Category-wise Vacancies | All Categories |
|---|---|---|
| Jal Shakti Department (Item 266) | OM 113 / SC 23 / ST-1 28 / ST-2 28 / OBC 22 / ALC-IB 11 / RBA 28 / EWS 29 | 282 |
| Public Works (R&B) Department (Item 267) | OM 71 / SC 14 / ST-1 18 / ST-2 18 / OBC 14 / ALC-IB 7 / RBA 17 / EWS 17 | 176 |
| Both items | OM 184 / SC 37 / ST-1 46 / ST-2 46 / OBC 36 / ALC-IB 18 / RBA 45 / EWS 46 | 458 |
The number of posts may go up or down before selection ends. The notification is also subject to the result of any court case pending on the matter.
The qualification is the same for both items. The notification words it exactly like this:
| Item | Qualification (as printed) |
|---|---|
| 266 and 267 | 03 years Diploma in Civil Engineering from Government recognized Institute/Indian University Degree in Civil Engineering or AMIE Section (A&B) India. |
The line is a little confusing, so read it with care. It points to a 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering, a Degree in Civil Engineering, or AMIE Section (A and B). Check the exact wording in the notification PDF before you apply. If you are a diploma or degree holder in civil engineering, see diploma jobs and engineering jobs for similar openings.
Some rules can cost you the post:
Age is counted as on 1 January 2026. The minimum age is 18 years for everyone: you must not be born after 01.01.2008.
| Category | Maximum Age |

Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →
Ex-Servicemen can deduct their Armed Forces service from their actual age. They are fine if the age left is not more than 3 years above the maximum limit, and they must not be born after 01.01.2008.
Both items carry Pay Level-6 (Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400). The notification does not list any allowances, so check the service rules of the UT of J&K for those. Appointment and service conditions follow the rules of the UT Government.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Written/OMR Examination | Objective type, multiple choice, English only. Selection is on merit in this exam only |
| Document Verification | Shortlisted candidates bring original documents |
| Exam Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Negative Marking | One-fourth of the marks of the question, for each wrong answer |
| Exam Date and Centres | To be notified separately by the Board |
| Syllabus | To be notified separately on the JKSSB website |
| Questions, Marks, Duration | Not given in this notification |
Document Verification is the most important stage. If you do not appear, or cannot show the original documents on the scheduled date, you will not be considered. Admit cards are expected about one week before the exam on the Board’s website, and roll number slips are not sent by post. Keep an eye on the syllabus page for preparation material once the syllabus is out.
Candidates with benchmark disabilities who apply as PwBD may use their own scribe and/or get 20 minutes of extra time per hour, with the Annexure-B certificate and Annexure-C undertaking. A fraudulent PwBD claim means debarment.
| Condition | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Reserved category certificate | Must be valid as on 29 December 2026, in the prescribed format, and uploaded with the form. No later upload is allowed. Wrong format means summary rejection |
| Fake certificate | Invalid, false or forged certificates mean debarment from Board exams plus penal action |
| One form per item | Only one application per item number. If you appear more than once for the same item, you are cancelled and debarred |
| Name details | Name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name must match your Matriculation certificate, or you may be cancelled |
| No corrections | Once submitted, no change in the form is entertained. Department and cadre preferences cannot be changed |
| Photo and signature | Blurred or unreadable photograph or signature means summary rejection |
| Wrong claims | If a claim is not substantiated, candidature is cancelled and criminal proceedings may follow |
| Ex-Servicemen | Need a Form-XIV certificate and an affidavit before a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate. The benefit cannot be used again on a later job |
| Banned items | Mobile phones (even switched off), smart watches, Bluetooth devices and similar items mean a ban and cancellation |
| Exam day | Carry the admit card, two recent dated photographs and an original photo ID, or you will not be allowed to appear |
| Provisional candidature | Your application is accepted only provisionally, with no detailed check before the exam. An ineligible candidate is stopped at any later stage, and a roll number or admit card does not give you a right to the next stage |
| Certificates at verification | Certificates must be in the prescribed format and valid as on the cut-off date, or candidature is liable to be cancelled. Without a valid reservation certificate you are considered under Open Merit |
| Scribe rules | The scribe must not be a candidate for the same exam, a relative, a student of the same institution or centre where the test is held, or hold more than the minimum qualification for the post, and must be at a lower grade of education than you. If the scribe’s qualification is not as you declared, you forfeit your right to the post. Both candidates are cancelled if a candidate is found acting as scribe for another |
| Misconduct | Any irregularity or malpractice, including defying exam officials, means debarment from Board exams for a period the Board decides, plus penal action |
| Contacting the Board | Every message must carry your application form number, e-mail, mobile number, name, date of birth and exam name, or it will not be entertained |
| Travel | No TA/DA is paid for the written test or Document Verification |
The form opens on 30 November 2026, so you cannot apply today. The Board says the application instructions and portal details will be published separately on its website.
