If you teach law or social sciences and dream of a seat at India’s top law university, read on. The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore has issued six notifications for 22 Assistant Professor posts. Eleven are permanent and eleven are 5-year contract posts, all on Level 10 (VII CPC). Two of the contract posts are special Chairs, one funded by HAL and one tied to the Department of Revenue.
Every notification has its own application form and the same deadline: 9 December 2026, 17:00 hrs IST. Pick the notification that matches your post, check the qualification row for it, and then apply. This guide on GovtJobsAlert.in lists every condition, so you do not lose your chance on a small clause. It also helps if you follow Karnataka govt jobs.
NLSIU was set up in 1987 as a pioneer in legal education and, as per the notifications, has ranked first among law universities in NIRF for the last eight years. The six notices were issued on 27 October 2026 from Nagarbhavi, Bangalore.

Everyone needs a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale), from a recognised university or institution. The extra NET condition applies only to the two permanent posts.
| Posts | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 20 and 21 (permanent) | Master’s with 55% plus NET (UGC or CSIR) or SLET / SET, with the exemptions below. Or a Ph.D from a foreign university in the top 500 of QS, THE or ARWU ranking (at any time) |
| 22, 23, 24 and 25 (contract) | Master’s with 55% as per Section I of Appendix A |
NET exemptions on the permanent posts:
Marks relaxation: a 5% relaxation may be provided at graduate and Master’s level to SC, ST and Differently-abled candidates. The same 5% may be provided to Ph.D holders who finished their Master’s before 19 September 1991. The 55% bar and the 5% relaxation are based on qualifying marks only, without any grace marks. The qualification must come from a recognised university or institution, as for a post graduate government job.
Subjects: Law posts cover all major law subjects, from Contracts, Property and Constitutional Law to Taxation, IPR and International Trade Law. Humanities and Social Sciences posts cover Economics, Sociology, Political Science and History. These lists are indicative.
The six notifications do not state any minimum or maximum age. Keep your age proof ready, because the form asks you to upload certificates for age, qualifications and experience.
| Posts | Pay |
|---|---|
| All six notifications (permanent and contract) | Level 10, as per VII CPC |
The notifications give only the pay level. They state no basic pay amount or allowances, so check the pay matrix before you decide. Permanent and contract posts carry the same level, so the real difference is job security. Weigh this together with the higher NET bar on the permanent posts if you teach in teaching and faculty roles now.
