The Directorate General Assam Rifles, Shillong has announced the Technical and Tradesman Recruitment Rally 2026 for 354 Group C vacancies across 17 trades, from Rifleman (Mason) and Rifleman (Vehicle Mechanic) to Warrant Officer (Cipher). This is a uniformed central force job, and it sits among the steady defence and paramilitary jobs that many families in small towns trust.
The online application opens on 28 September 2026 and closes on 28 October 2026 at 23:59 hrs. The trades are open to male candidates only. After the online form comes an RFID-based physical test at Jorhat or Diphu (Assam), tentatively from 23 November 2026 onwards. The Assam Rifles is a Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This rally fills technical and tradesman posts. Seats are counted on an all-India basis for each category, and there is no state-wise quota.

10% of the vacancies in all 17 trades are earmarked for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). If suitable ESM candidates are not found, those seats go to non-ESM candidates of the same category. Only the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force count as Ex-Servicemen here. The notice also says the vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease.
Most Rifleman and Havildar trades need a 10th pass plus a two-year ITI course or a two/three-year Diploma in the matching trade. If you hold an ITI certificate in a technical trade, check the exact trade names in the notification PDF before you choose.

A simple tip before you pick: match the trade to the exact name on your ITI or diploma certificate, because the category and trade you choose cannot be changed later. The Warrant Officer (Cipher) post has the most seats (124), but it needs 10+2 Science, not just 10th. If you only have a 10th certificate and no ITI, look at Store Keeper Technical, Mason (with trade test and one year of experience) or Recovery Vehicle Mechanic (with a heavy vehicle licence).
You also need a Domicile / Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) from the competent authority. Physically handicapped candidates are not eligible to apply for this rally.
Age is counted as on 01 July 2026. Rifleman and Havildar trades need 18 to 23 years. The four Warrant Officer trades (Cipher, Draughtsman, OT Technician, Physiotherapist) need 18 to 25 years.

The departmental 40-year relaxation does not cover Draughtsman or Mason, and serving personnel who apply in any trade outside the para 32 list will be rejected. Only the date of birth and name in your Matriculation (or equivalent) certificate are accepted, and later change requests will not be considered.

Weight must be in proportion to height and age as per the medical standard. To claim a height or chest relaxation, carry the valid certificate (or ST certificate) to the PST/PET.
The notification does not give a pay level or a rupee figure. Para 26 only says that pay and allowances will be as per the pay scale applicable to Assam Rifles personnel. Selected candidates will be on probation for two years. Please note one serious condition: if you leave the training course or resign early, you must refund the full cost of training or three months’ pay and allowances.

The merit list decides everything. Merely qualifying in all tests does not guarantee final selection. All rally information comes by email and SMS only. Carry the original fee receipt/challan, the printed application form and a copy of the notification to the PST/PET, along with your PRC and category certificate. EWS candidates need an Income & Asset Certificate for 2025-26 based on 2024-25 income. Departmental candidates must bring their NOC from Col (Record), HQ DGAR.
