Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL), a company under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, has issued Vacancy Circular No. 08/2026 for 8 Chief General Manager (E8) posts. If you are a senior engineer with years of project execution behind you, this is a rare chance to move into a leadership role at a PSU that builds rail links for major ports.
This is not an ordinary fresher recruitment. The posts are filled on absorption or on deputation, and there is no online form. You must post a hand-filled application to the Mumbai office by 4 December 2026. Read the eligibility tables slowly, because the pay-scale and service rules decide who can apply.

The notification gives no category-wise reservation split, so you do not need to hunt for a reservation table. Five of the eight seats are for CGM (Projects), spread over five cities, which makes it the post with the widest choice of location. IPRCL may increase or decrease the number of posts, or cancel the circular fully or partly, at any stage. The selected officer can be posted anywhere in India.

The degree must be from a recognised university. This educational qualification does not apply to candidates applying on deputation. Deputation candidates are exempt from this table, but the service rules below still apply. If you hold an engineering degree in another branch, check the table above before you spend time on the form.
All four posts require experience in execution of infrastructure projects. Experience counts only if gained after the minimum qualification. Preferred experience differs by post.
| Post | Preferred Experience |
|---|---|

| CGM (Electrical) | Railway electric traction, general power supply, air conditioning, building electrification, road lighting |

| Absorption, IDA scale | IDA scale 51300-73000 (now 120000-280000) with at least 20 years of managerial or executive service; or IDA scale 43200-66000 (now 100000-260000) for 2 years with the same 20 years |
| Deputation, CDA scale | SAG/SG in PB-4 with GP 10,000 (Level 14) or GP 8,700 (Level 13), with at least 17 years of Group A service |
Read the table as a service-and-pay test first and an experience test second. A high designation alone is not enough: you need the matching pay level and the required years of service, where stated. Higher grade pay or scale granted under ACP/MACP/NF by the parent department is not counted for these criteria. You must also be physically and medically fit, and the selected candidate undergoes a medical examination under company policy.
| Category | Maximum Age |
|---|---|
| All candidates | 57 years as on 4 December 2026 |
| Current IPRCL employees | Upper limit plus the service period rendered in IPRCL |

Statutory deductions such as EPF (employee’s share), Income Tax and Professional Tax apply as per rules. Choose the mode before you pick the annexure. If you are a serving officer who meets the pay-scale and service rules, do not leave this to the last week. Your employer’s forwarding and NOC take time, and your envelope must carry the right annexure for absorption or deputation. Ask your HR section for the forwarding letter this week, and keep the APAR copies ready so the proper-channel step does not delay you. Post it early so it is in IPRCL’s hands by 4 December 2026.
