Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (West), Mumbai, has announced 6 Group C civilian vacancies under the Indian Coast Guard. The posts are Store Keeper Grade II, Engine Driver, Lascar, Civilian Motor Transport Driver (Ordinary Grade), MTS (Peon) and MTS (Chowkidar), with one vacancy each. Pay runs from Pay Level 1 to Pay Level 4, and the qualification starts at 10th pass, which makes this a useful notice for anyone looking at defence jobs.
This is an offline recruitment, so there is no website to fill a form on. You must post a hand-filled application so that it reaches Mumbai by 3 November 2026. Read the rules for your own post carefully, because a small mistake in the envelope or the enclosures can get the application thrown out. GovtJobsAlert.in has put everything you need in the tables below.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Organisation | Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (West), Indian Coast Guard |
| Advertisement No. | CGRHQ(WEST)/01/2026 |
| Total Vacancies | 6 (subject to change) |
| Posts | Store Keeper Grade II, Engine Driver, Lascar, Civilian MT Driver (Ordinary Grade), MTS (Peon), MTS (Chowkidar) |
| Service | General Central Service, Group C, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial |
| Mode | Offline, by ordinary post only |
| Advertised in Employment News | 19 to 25 September 2026 |
| Last Date | 3 November 2026 |
The notification says the vacancy numbers are subject to change. Selected candidates are liable to be posted at any unit under Coast Guard Region (West), with all India transfer liability, so be ready to move.
Every post has exactly one seat, and each seat is set aside for one category. Check your own category against the post before you spend time on the form. The notification marks each seat with one category and does not explain how candidates of other categories are treated for it, so read the vacancy line for your post in the PDF before you apply.
| Post | Category of the Vacancy | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| Store Keeper Grade II | EWS | 1 |
| Engine Driver | SC | 1 |
| Lascar | EWS | 1 |
| Civilian MT Driver (Ordinary Grade) | OBC | 1 |
| MTS (Peon) | OBC | 1 |
| MTS (Chowkidar) | OBC | 1 |
Five of the six posts ask for work experience on top of the certificate, so a fresher cannot apply for them. For Engine Driver, experience is only desirable, but the competency certificate is a must.
| Post | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Store Keeper Grade II | 12th pass from a recognised Board or University, plus 1 year experience in handling stores from a recognised firm, Central or State Govt organisation or PSU |
| Engine Driver | Matriculation or equivalent and a Certificate of Competency as Engine Driver from a recognised Government institute or equivalent. Desirable: 2 years service as Sarang on a vessel of over 400 Boat Horse Power |
| Lascar | Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised board, plus 3 years experience in service on a boat |
| Civilian MT Driver (Ordinary Grade) | 10th pass, valid driving licence for both heavy and light motor vehicles, knowledge of motor mechanism (able to remove minor defects), and at least 2 years driving experience |
| MTS (Peon) | Matriculation or equivalent, plus 2 years experience as an office attendant |
| MTS (Chowkidar) | Matriculation or equivalent, plus 2 years experience as a Chowkidar in a recognised institution or organisation |
Think about your own work history first. The experience certificate is on the list of documents, so ask your employer for it now, with the dates of service and the kind of work you did. A Lascar needs service on a boat, an MT Driver needs driving, and a Chowkidar needs service as a Chowkidar, so the certificate must say exactly that. If you have passed 10th and want government jobs, five of the six posts are open at that level. Only Store Keeper needs 12th pass. For the Engine Driver post, the Sarang service is only desirable, but the Certificate of Competency is essential.
| Post | Age Limit | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|
| Store Keeper Grade II | 18 to 25 years | Govt servants up to 40 years |
| Engine Driver | 18 to 30 years | 5 years for SC against reserved vacancies; Govt servants |
| Lascar | 18 to 30 years | Govt servants up to 40 years |
| Civilian MT Driver (Ordinary Grade) | 18 to 27 years | 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer); Govt servants |
| MTS (Peon) | 18 to 27 years | 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer); Govt servants |
| MTS (Chowkidar) | 18 to 27 years | 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer); Govt servants |
Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →
The notification does not name a separate age cut-off date, but it says candidates found overaged on the last day of receipt of applications will be rejected. Count your age on 3 November 2026. Government servants get relaxation as per Central Government orders issued from time to time.
Three different pay levels sit inside this one notice, so compare them with your own experience before choosing which post to apply for. The envelope must carry one post name, and the notification does not say whether you may apply for more than one post, so do not guess. Choose the post that matches your certificate and experience best.
| Post | Pay Level | Pay Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Engine Driver | Level 4 | Rs 25,500 – 81,100 |
| Store Keeper Grade II | Level 2 | Rs 19,900 – 63,200 |
| Civilian MT Driver (Ordinary Grade) | Level 2 | Rs 19,900 – 63,200 |
| Lascar | Level 1 | Rs 18,000 – 56,900 |
| MTS (Peon) | Level 1 | Rs 18,000 – 56,900 |
| MTS (Chowkidar) | Level 1 | Rs 18,000 – 56,900 |
The Engine Driver post carries the highest pay of the six, which fits the Certificate of Competency it asks for. The notification gives only the pay levels and scales. It does not list allowances, so do not plan your budget on an in-hand figure until you see an appointment letter.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| 1. Scrutiny | Applications are checked against the eligibility criteria and documents |
| 2. Document Verification | Shortlisted candidates bring originals and 2 sets of self-attested photocopies, as told in the admit card |
| 3. Biometric Verification | Thumb impression and photo are captured at the first document verification and re-checked at every stage |
| 4. Written Examination | Pen and paper, bilingual, 1 hour |
| 5. Trade Test | For posts where applicable, for those who qualify the written test |
| 6. Merit List | Based strictly on marks in the written examination, published on the ICG website |
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Questions | 80 objective type, 1 mark each |
| Negative Marking | None |
| Subjects | General Knowledge, Mathematics, General English, Questions on relevant trade |
| Qualifying Marks | 50%; 45% for SC and ST |
No relaxation in qualifying marks is allowed for OBC and EWS candidates. This matters here because five of the six seats are marked for those two categories. Use the syllabus page to plan your revision. Admit cards will be issued to shortlisted candidates only, and the notification does not give an exam date. It also does not say which posts will have a trade test, so keep your practical skills sharp for Engine Driver, Lascar and MT Driver in case it applies. Keep checking the ICG website regularly, because the notification says the merit list and the instructions will be published there.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Copy the application format given in Annexure-I of the notification (PDF link in Essential Links below). Fill it in English or Hindi |
| 2 | Stick a self-attested colour photograph on the form and sign it with your left-hand thumb impression |
| 3 | Attach self-attested photocopies, with name and date, of the documents listed in the table below. Do not send originals |
| 4 | Put a separate blank envelope addressed to yourself, with a Rs 50 postal stamp pasted on it, inside your application |
| 5 | Write APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF ___ in bold letters on the main envelope, along with your category: UR, EWS, OBC (Non Creamy Layer), SC or ST |
| 6 | Post it by ordinary post only to: Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (West), Alexander Graham Bell Road, PO Malabar Hill, Mumbai 400006 |
| 7 | Make sure it reaches by 3 November 2026, within 45 days of the Employment News advertisement |
| Documents to Attach | Note |
|---|---|
| Valid photo ID proof | Self-attested |
| Matriculation or equivalent marksheet and certificate | Self-attested |
| 12th, UG, PG or Diploma marksheet and certificate | As per the essential eligibility |
| Latest category certificate (SC, ST, OBC, EWS) | If applicable; formats in Annexures II and III |
| Experience certificate | Self-attested |
| NOC from the employer | If serving in a Government organisation |
| Two latest passport size colour photographs | Colour |
Two things are easy to forget: the passport size photographs and the stamped envelope. Both are on the rejection list. A government employee has one more step, which is to send the form through proper channel so that the NOC goes with it before the due date.
All these documents must be issued on or before 3 November 2026, so a certificate applied for after that date will not work. The OBC certificate must be in the Central Government format, and the notification treats the closing date as the date for checking OBC status and creamy layer.
| Event | Date |

|---|---|
| All candidates | No application fee is stated in the notification |

| No self-addressed envelope with Rs 50 stamp | Summarily rejected |
| No notation on the envelope | An envelope without APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF and the category will be summarily rejected |
| False or wrong information | Leads to disqualification, ICG is not responsible for any consequence, and candidature can be rejected at any stage or even after joining |
| Serving Government employees | Must apply through proper channel before the due date, with an NOC from the competent authority |
| Qualifying only in the written exam | Mere appearance or qualifying does not give any right to appointment unless you meet the eligibility criteria |
| SC and ST rail or bus fare | Second class fare by the shortest route is reimbursed at the exam venue on tickets, but not to SC and ST candidates already in Central or State Government service |
Take a photocopy of your filled form for your own records before you post it. Check the spelling of the address, and write the post name and category clearly on the envelope, because an envelope without them is rejected. If you have the experience for your post, send the application early, because post can be slow and the 3 November 2026 deadline is for the date it reaches Mumbai, not the date you post it. Keep checking the Coast Guard website for updates, as the notification asks candidates to do. For more such openings, keep visiting GovtJobsAlert.in and browse our defence jobs page.
