These are vacant cadre posts of the Surat Municipal Corporation, filled by direct recruitment. This advertisement is a waiting-list recruitment. That means SMC is building a ranked list of suitable candidates for the presently vacant posts. A place on the list is the goal, so read the selection table later in this article before you assume a particular exam pattern.

Only Assistant Engineer (Instrumentation) has a category split. Every other post is entirely Unreserved. If you belong to SC, ST, SEBC or EWS, those eight posts carry no seat for your category, though you can still compete for the Unreserved seat on Unreserved standards.
| Post | Category-wise Vacancies | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Director (IT) | UR 1 | 1 |
| Radiologist | UR 1 | 1 |
| Pathologist | UR 1 | 1 |
| Legal Officer | UR 1 | 1 |
| Administrative Officer (Suman School) | UR 1 | 1 |
| Departmental Inquiry Officer | UR 1 | 1 |
| Deputy Engineer (Instrumentation) | UR 1 | 1 |
| Assistant Engineer (Instrumentation) | UR 6 (4 open + 2 for women) / ST 1 / SEBC 2 / SC 0 / EWS 0 | 9 |
| Supervisor (Instrumentation) | UR 2 | 2 |
Reserved seats are for candidates of that category who are original residents of Gujarat. No post is reserved for Divyang candidates. Where the women-reserved seats cannot be filled by qualified women, they go to men of the same category. Women-reserved seats do not mean the other seats are only for men. Merit decides those.
A reserved-category candidate can apply for an Unreserved seat, but is judged by the Unreserved standard. Seven posts have a single seat each, so make sure your experience proof is perfect.
Look for the exact discipline. Instrumentation posts need a B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation or Instrumentation & Control; Supervisor also accepts diploma. See also the engineering, law and medical job pages.
| Post | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Director (IT) | Post-graduate (Master’s) engineering degree in Computer, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, ICT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Science or IT, plus 9 years after post-graduation in a Government or Semi-Government post with pay scale Rs.8000-13500 and IT experience |
| Radiologist | M.D. (Radio Diagnosis), M.D. (Radiology), Diplomate of National Board, or PG Diploma in Radiology/Radio Diagnosis; basic computer knowledge; Gujarati or Hindi |
| Pathologist | M.D. (Pathology), Diplomate of National Board, or PG Diploma in Pathology; basic computer knowledge; Gujarati or Hindi |
| Legal Officer | Master’s degree in Law, plus either 10 years of continuing practice in Civil, Criminal and Labour Courts after the Sanad, or 5 years on legal work in a Government or Semi-Government post at Level-8 (Rs.44,900-1,42,400) or higher; Gujarati and Hindi both |
| Administrative Officer (Suman School) | Graduate in any discipline with B.Ed, plus 10 years as a Secondary School teacher |
| Departmental Inquiry Officer | Law graduate, plus 10 years after the Sanad in Labour Court, Industrial Tribunal, Conciliation etc.; those who worked as Arbitrator get preference; Gujarati and Hindi both |
| Deputy Engineer (Instrumentation) | B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation or Instrumentation & Control, plus minimum 5 years of proven experience in design, development, maintenance and calibration of instruments |

| Supervisor (Instrumentation) | B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation or Instrumentation & Control, OR Diploma in the same with at least 2 years of experience in Government, local body, Government undertaking or Companies Act company |
Many of these posts ask for 5 to 10 years of experience, and the proof matters as much as the years. Experience counts only if gained after you earned the required degree. Experience before that is not valid under any circumstances. A post where registration or licence is compulsory needs it valid on the date you apply.
| Post | Maximum Age |
|---|---|
| Director (IT), Radiologist, Pathologist | 45 years |
| Legal Officer, Administrative Officer, Departmental Inquiry Officer | 45 years |
| Deputy Engineer (Instrumentation) | 40 years |
| Assistant Engineer and Supervisor (Instrumentation) | 35 years |

Age is counted on 23 November 2026. Reserved-category candidates who are original residents of Gujarat get relaxation as per Government rules, but never beyond 45 years. Women also get relaxation as per Government rules. The notification does not print the number of years. The age limit does not apply to SMC employees on a regular pay scale, but it does apply to SMC trainees on a fixed training allowance.
| Post | Pay Level | Pay Matrix |
|---|---|---|
| Director (IT) | Level 11 | Rs.67,700 – 2,08,700 |
| Radiologist, Pathologist, Legal Officer, Administrative Officer | Level 10 | Rs.56,100 – 1,77,500 |
| Departmental Inquiry Officer, Deputy Engineer | Level 9 | Rs.53,100 – 1,67,800 |
| Assistant Engineer (Instrumentation) | Level 8 | Rs.44,900 – 1,42,400 |
| Supervisor (Instrumentation) | Level 7 | Rs.39,900 – 1,26,600 |
For Supervisor, the notification shows a fixed training allowance of Rs.18,500 per month for the first three years, and the pay scale after that. Appointees must also pass the CCC+ exam (posts 1 to 7) or the CCC exam (Assistant Engineer and Supervisor) within one year of joining, unless they already hold it. Submit that certificate with the application.
The notification does not fix one exam pattern. It says a final waiting list will be prepared, and the criteria for a written test, practical test or oral interview will be fixed post-wise, keeping in view the qualification and experience.
| Detail | What the notification says |
|---|---|
| Final waiting list | Standing Committee for posts 1 to 3; Appointment Authority for posts 4 to 9 |
| Who is called | Municipal Commissioner decides, based on the number of applications; the decision is final |
| Call letter | On the SMC website and by message on your mobile |
| Equal marks | The older candidate gets precedence; if age is equal, the better educational merit |

You travel to the test or document verification at your own cost. No allowance is paid. At verification you must show the originals and one attested copy of every document you ticked in the form, and a mismatch can remove your name from the list. Because the call letter comes by message and on the website, check the SMC website regularly after you apply.
