Job Description

Overview

Would you like to help shape a secure, resilient, and scalable operating model for a mission-critical Azure managed environment?

The Azure Managed Environment team is seeking a Technical Program Manager to lead secure, resilient, and scalable platform operations. The successful candidate will drive tenant and subscription administration, platform configuration, governance, security controls, cost optimization, patching, and user support while strengthening internal expertise, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

In this role, the candidate will partner across engineering, security, governance, operations, and business teams to improve service reliability, accelerate decision-making, and establish repeatable processes and controls. The ideal candidate combines strong technical program management with Azure platform knowledge, operational discipline, and an automation-first mindset.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Drive Azure platform operations: Coordinate tenant and subscription administration, platform configuration, patching, user support, and operational escalation across the managed environment.
• Establish operational governance: Define clear ownership, service processes, controls, decision forums, metrics, and reporting that improve accountability and execution.
• Strengthen security and compliance: Partner with security engineering to operationalize baseline controls, reduce privileged access, protect sensitive data and intellectual property, and maintain evidence of control effectiveness.
• Manage cross-functional programs: Align engineering, security, finance, support, and business stakeholders around priorities, dependencies, risks, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
• Improve reliability and resilience: Identify operational risks, close process gaps, strengthen escalation paths, and build durable capabilities.
• Optimize Azure cost and capacity: Establish visibility and governance for consumption, cost drivers, optimization opportunities, and resource planning.
• Accelerate automation and continuous improvement: Use telemetry, automation, AI-enabled engineering, and standardized workflows to reduce manual effort and increase execution speed.
• Support control implementation: Coordinate intake, impact assessment, architecture alignment, implementation planning, and operational readiness for new security and platform controls.
• Communicate with leaders: Provide clear, decision-ready updates on service health, risk posture, delivery status, dependencies, and investment priorities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year(s) of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing complex technical programs involving cloud platforms, infrastructure, security, operations, or enterprise services.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including tenant and subscription management, governance, platform operations, and service lifecycle concepts.
  • Experience defining operating models, governance mechanisms, milestones, dependencies, risks, metrics, and executive reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across engineering, security, support, finance, vendors, and business stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience improving operational processes, service reliability, escalation management, and control execution in a complex environment.
  • Experience leading AI-powered transformation initiatives, including the implementation of agentic workflows, automation, and data-driven solutions at enterprise scale.
  • Familiarity with AI governance, risk management, and responsible AI practices, with the ability to translate emerging AI capabilities into measurable business value.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Azure security controls, cloud governance, cost management, patching, identity, or privileged-access risk.
  • Experience partnering with internal engineering and operations teams to manage critical processes and oversee the delivery of managed services.
  • Experience applying automation, telemetry, dashboards, or AI-enabled workflows to improve operational efficiency and control effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with secure control-intake processes, impact assessments, architecture reviews, implementation planning, and operational readiness.
  • Technical background in software engineering, cloud engineering, systems operations, or security engineering.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
