Job Description

Are you ready to architect highly available, large-scale enterprise software platforms that solve complex, ambiguous problems? We're seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join Amazon's Finance Automation Payroll Technology team, where you'll define the technical vision for core product areas and transform how we enable accurate, timely payroll processing across multiple countries at scale.

Key job responsibilities
Design and architect scalable, reliable solutions for complex payroll and financial systems that integrate across multiple services, countries, and regulatory environments
Own the technical vision end-to-end for one or more core product areas, from problem definition through architecture, delivery, launch, and long-term operational health
Drive alignment across engineering, product, and finance stakeholders by translating ambiguous business needs into clear technical strategies and decomposing them into actionable plans
Establish and elevate quality standards through automated testing strategies, operational readiness practices, meaningful metrics, and a review culture that makes high quality the team's default
Mentor and develop engineers at all levels through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing, while leading by example in technical decision-making

A day in the life
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on our Payroll Technology team, you'll focus on designing and building systems that ensure every Amazonian gets paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with global regulations. Your day might include collaborating with engineering and finance stakeholders to decompose complex business challenges into clear technical strategies, leading architecture discussions that span multiple services and teams, and conducting code reviews that elevate the quality bar across the organization. You'll also mentor engineers at various levels, establish practices and tooling that make high quality the team's default, and work across time zones with colleagues globally to plan and deliver the next generation of our payroll platform.

About the team
We are a dedicated team building first-of-its-kind systems to streamline payroll processing and provide an excellent pay experience for Amazonians worldwide. Our mission is to enable our business to pay every team member accurately, on time, and at scale, with zero defects. As Amazon's workforce grows in size and geography, payroll operations become increasingly complex, and we're solving this through technology rather than process alone. You'll join a collaborative group focused on building systems that track and monitor payroll accuracy and compliance across countries and regions. We're excited to work with someone who can help us shape our multi-year roadmap and establish the engineering practices that will define our team's future.
