The Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), a premier research institute under the Department of Space, Government of India, has released Advt. No. 14/2026 for a one-year traineeship at its Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO) in Rajasthan. There are 4 seats in total: 2 Telescope Operator Trainee, 1 Office Trainee and 1 Hindi Translator Trainee. The monthly stipend goes up to ₹29,000. If you are looking for government jobs in Rajasthan with real work experience at a national science lab, read on.
The advertisement is dated 30 September 2026 and applications close on 14 October 2026. That is only two weeks, and there is no online form — you apply by email, with every document inside a single PDF. Diploma holders, engineers, graduates and Hindi or English post-graduates can all find a seat here, but each traineeship has its own rules. This guide from GovtJobsAlert.in covers eligibility, stipend, selection and the exact way to apply, so read it fully before you send anything.
PRL is one of India’s leading space and physics research laboratories. Its Udaipur Solar Observatory studies the Sun, and this traineeship is offered under a skill development programme for young and energetic candidates.

| Traineeship | Seats |
|---|---|
| Telescope Operator Trainee | 2 |
| Office Trainee | 1 |
| Hindi Translator Trainee | 1 |
| Total | 4 |
The notification does not give any category-wise split of these seats. With only one seat each for the Office and Hindi Translator traineeships, competition will be close, so a clean, complete application matters a lot.
Not sure which seat fits you? A simple way to think about it: with a 60% diploma or BE/B.Tech in electronics, electrical or mechanical, or an M.Sc. in physics or electronics, choose the Telescope Operator Trainee seat. If you are a non-engineering graduate who is comfortable with files, computers and office work, look at the Office Trainee seat. And if you love languages and can move easily between Hindi and English, the Hindi Translator Trainee seat gives the highest stipend of the three. You apply with a separate form for each traineeship, so pick the one that truly matches your degree.
| Traineeship | Qualification Required |
|---|---|
| Telescope Operator Trainee | Diploma in Electronics & Communications, Electrical or Mechanical; OR BE / B.Tech in these disciplines; OR M.Sc. (Physics / Electronics) — with 60% or above in the qualifying exam |
| Office Trainee | Graduate in Arts, Commerce, Management, Science, Law or Computer Application with at least 55% marks from a recognised University / Institute (Engineers not eligible) |
| Hindi Translator Trainee | Master’s in Hindi (minimum 55%) with English as a compulsory or elective subject; OR Master’s in English (minimum 55%) with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject |
For the Telescope Operator seat, a diploma holder and a B.Tech holder stand on the same footing, so do not hold back just because you have “only” a diploma. The 60% mark is the key test.
For the Office Trainee seat, the notification clearly says Engineers are not eligible. If you are a graduate from arts, commerce, science, law or computer application, this seat is for you — but only ECE, Electrical or Mechanical BE / B.Tech holders suit the Telescope Operator seat.
For the Hindi Translator seat, the other language must appear in your degree as a compulsory or elective subject. Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge of Hindi translation, so mention any translation work in the experience part of the form. This is a good opening for post-graduate candidates in Hindi or English.
| Traineeship | Age Limit (as on 14/10/2026) |
|---|---|
| Telescope Operator Trainee | 18 to 28 years |
| Office Trainee | 18 to 28 years |
| Hindi Translator Trainee | 18 to 35 years |

Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India rules. The notification does not list the years of relaxation category-wise, so if you are claiming it, attach your caste or disability certificate with the application.
| Traineeship | Stipend per Month |
|---|---|
| Telescope Operator Trainee | ₹28,000 |
| Office Trainee | ₹23,500 |
| Hindi Translator Trainee | ₹29,000 |
This is a stipend for a one-year traineeship, not the salary of a regular post. The notification gives only the monthly stipend figure for each traineeship. Still, working for a year at a Department of Space observatory is valuable experience to show in future applications. Since you will be based in Udaipur for the whole year, think about your stay and daily costs before you apply, especially if you are coming from another state. Plan ahead so the move does not surprise you.
Please be clear about one thing: these positions are purely temporary. They do not lead to permanent absorption at PRL or its observatories, and trainees are not treated on par with regular employees.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Shortlisting | Applications are screened; only shortlisted candidates will be informed about the skill test |
| Skill Test | Held for shortlisted candidates |
| Certificate Verification | Original certificates and a set of self-attested copies must be presented for verification |
The notification does not give a skill test date, pattern or syllabus. Only shortlisted candidates will be intimated about the skill test. Meanwhile, general preparation tips can help you get ready.
Travelling Allowance: outstation candidates (from outside Udaipur) shortlisted for the skill test will be paid to-and-fro Railway Sleeper Class or ordinary bus fare by the shortest route, as indicated in the application format. Fare is paid only on producing the ticket copies, so keep your tickets safe.
