Lead Electrical Engineer - Data Center Design & Engineering

Location

Head - Data Center Engineering / Project Director

Job Purpose

Lead the design, engineering, commissioning, and operational excellence of mission-critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise data centers. Drive electrical engineering standards, technical governance, reliability, and project delivery across greenfield and brownfield developments while ensuring compliance with international data center standards and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Lead end-to-end electrical design development for hyperscale and colocation data centers.
  • Review and approve Basis of Design (BOD), electrical specifications, SLDs, protection schemes, technical submittals, and IFC/IFT drawings.
  • Coordinate with design consultants, EPC contractors, OEMs, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Review design stages including 30%, 60%, 90%, and AFC submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, TIA, Uptime Institute, and local regulatory standards.

Data Center Electrical Systems

  • Lead engineering of: 
    • Utility Power Systems
    • HV/MV/LV Distribution Systems
    • UPS Systems
    • DG Systems
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear & Protection Systems
    • EPMS/BMS Integration
    • Grounding & Lightning Protection
  • Support liquid cooling and high-density AI/ML workloads requiring 40kW-75kW rack deployments.

Project Delivery & Commissioning

  • Review and approve FAT, FWT, SAT, L1-L5 commissioning procedures.
  • Support construction management teams during installation and commissioning.
  • Monitor project schedules, risks, technical compliance, and quality.
  • Lead equipment testing, reliability validation, and integrated systems testing.

Operations & Reliability

  • Provide technical leadership for operational data centers.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical electrical incidents and failures.
  • Develop reliability improvement initiatives and operational standards.
  • Manage electrical capacity planning and infrastructure expansion projects.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Interface with utility providers, consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead technical evaluations, vendor onboarding, and equipment selection.
  • Participate in commercial and technical bid evaluations.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and guide electrical engineering teams.
  • Lead technical reviews and engineering governance meetings.
  • Drive lessons learnt, standardization, and continuous improvement programs.

Desired Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 12-18 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years in Data Center Design, Engineering, Commissioning, or Operations.
  • Experience in hyperscale data centers, colocation facilities, or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Equinix, CtrlS, NTT, Yotta, AdaniConnex, STT, or similar organizations preferred.
