Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect - Factory Automation to lead the design, integration, and deployment of MES, PLC, SCADA, and shopfloor automation solutions across manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong automation architecture expertise and proven experience in connecting production systems, machines, utilities, historians, and enterprise applications.

MES or shopfloor implementation experience is mandatory. Pre-sales and solutioning experience is also mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end automation architecture spanning PLC, HMI, SCADA, Historian, Edge, and MES layers.
  • Design machine connectivity, alarms, events, recipe management, production confirmations, and quality data collection frameworks.
  • Architect MES-to-machine integrations using OPC UA, industrial protocols, APIs, MQTT, and event-driven architectures.
  • Lead workshops, fit-gap analysis, detailed design, configuration, FAT, SAT, commissioning, deployment, cutover, and hypercare activities.
  • Define controls standards, network architecture, cybersecurity principles, redundancy, disaster recovery, and monitoring strategies.
  • Govern integrations with ERP, MES, SCADA, Historians, OEM equipment, and shopfloor systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, IT, OT, and vendor teams to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Mentor project teams and establish implementation standards, governance processes, and best practices.

Technical Skills

Mandatory

  • PLC and SCADA solution architecture expertise.
  • Hands-on MES-to-machine and shopfloor implementation experience.
  • OPC UA and industrial communication protocols.
  • Equipment states, alarms, recipes, traceability, and production execution.
  • FAT, SAT, commissioning, deployment, cutover, and stabilization.
  • Solution architecture, integration design, scalability, security, and governance.
  • Pre-sales, RFP/RFI response, estimation, technical workshops, and customer presentations.

Preferred

  • MQTT, REST APIs, industrial messaging, and event-driven architectures.
  • Cloud platforms, containers, DevOps, cybersecurity, and analytics.
  • ISA-88, ISA-95, and manufacturing automation standards.
  • Multi-site automation and MES rollout experience.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work across Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, IT, OT, vendors, and globally distributed teams.
  • Experience leading architecture reviews, technical decisions, deployments, and production stabilization activities.
