UPSSSC has revised the PET 2026 written exam schedule. By Important Notice No. 1423 dated 25 September 2026, the exam will now be held on 25 October 2026 (Sunday), 30 October 2026 (Friday) and 1 November 2026 (Sunday), in two shifts each day. The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) had earlier fixed the PET 2026 written exam for 23, 24 and 25 October 2026. That schedule came through its Important Notice No. 1303 dated 9 September 2026, issued under Advertisement No. 16-Exam/2026. Each day had two shifts.
Now the Controller of Examinations has issued a fresh notice, No. 1423/36/Teen (Pari-1)/2026/Khand-2, dated 25 September 2026. It says that, due to unavoidable reasons, the exam will be held on 25 October, 30 October and 1 November 2026. The Commission has not given any other reason for the change, so please ignore any rumours you see on social media about why the dates moved.
Read the change carefully, because it is easy to get wrong. Not every date has moved. Sunday, 25 October 2026 was in the old schedule and it is still in the new one. Only two days changed: 23 October and 24 October are out, and Friday, 30 October and Sunday, 1 November are in. The shift timings are exactly the same as before.

On every one of the three exam days, the paper runs in two shifts:

Each shift is two hours long, which matches the 2-hour duration of the PET paper. The notice does not say which date or shift a particular candidate will get. That will be shown on your admit card, along with your district and exam centre, and the original advertisement says no change of centre, date or time is allowed.
The notice clearly says that candidates will be informed separately, through the Commission’s website, about the release of the PET 2026 admit card, in due course. It does not give any date for the admit card.
So we are not going to guess one. Keep checking the official UPSSSC website, and keep your Registration Slip safe, as the advertisement asks you to. We will add the admit card link to this page as soon as UPSSSC releases it. You can also follow our admit card updates for every exam.
Don’t worry — this change does not ask you to do anything new. The application window closed on 7 September 2026, so there is no fresh form to fill and no fee to pay again. If you had already submitted your application, you do not need to do anything more at this stage except wait for the admit card.

Since the exam runs over several days and shifts, the Commission applies its score normalisation process, as the advertisement provides for multi-shift exams. It is meant for a fair comparison of candidates across shifts. What you control is your preparation.
Use the extra days wisely. The paper has 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, with one-fourth (¼) mark deducted for every wrong answer, so guessing blindly can hurt you. Current Affairs, General Awareness and the three interpretation sections (Hindi passage, graph and table) together carry 50 marks. Practise them with previous year question papers and check the full exam calendar so that PET does not clash with any other exam you plan to write.

The last date for fee adjustment and application modification is unchanged at 8 September 2026, and the eligibility, application fee, exam pattern and basis of selection remain exactly as originally published. The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission has issued a Shuddhi-Patra (corrigendum) numbered 58/19/Vigyapan Anubhag (Gyarah)/2026/16-Pariksha/2026, dated 1 September 2026 and signed by Secretary Harikesh Chaurasia. It is issued in continuation of Advertisement No. 16-Pariksha/2026 for the Preliminary Eligibility Test 2026, and it moves exactly one deadline — the last date for registration, deposit of fee and submission of the online application form, which now runs to 7 September 2026.
Read that narrowly, because that is how the Commission wrote it. The correction window is not part of the extension: the last date for fee adjustment and modification of a submitted application stays where it was, at 8 September 2026. The registration start date of 3 August 2026 is likewise untouched. The notice states in terms that the application process, the application fee, the basis of selection and the prescribed terms and instructions all remain exactly as published in the original advertisement, so the eligibility, age, exam pattern and fee details set out elsewhere in this article are unaffected.
One consequence was worth spelling out at the time. The extension gave three extra days to register and pay, but not three extra days to fix mistakes — the correction window still shut on 8 September 2026, only one day after the new submission deadline.

PET is a qualifying eligibility test, not a vacancy-based recruitment, so this corrigendum notifies no vacancy count and none should be expected from it. Its value is the score card, which stays valid for three years and is the gate to the Group C advertisements that follow. The application window has now closed.
Registration, fee deposit and online form submission closed on 7 September 2026, and the fee adjustment and correction window closed on 8 September 2026. The written exam is now scheduled for 25 October, 30 October and 1 November 2026, as set out in the latest update on this page.

UPSSSC recruits for Group C posts across departments of the Uttar Pradesh Government. Since the introduction of the two-tier system, PET works as the first screening filter — you appear for PET, receive a score card, and then use that score to apply for the Main Examinations of individual posts as they are advertised. PET is now held every year, so a missed year is no longer a lost opportunity.
This is the question we get asked most, so let us settle it clearly: PET 2026 has no vacancy number, and it is not supposed to have one.
PET is a preliminary screening and eligibility test, not a recruitment for any specific post. The notification does not advertise a single vacancy, because PET does not fill any position by itself. What it does is generate a normalised score card that you then use to apply for the Main Examination of whichever UPSSSC post is advertised later.
The notification also states plainly that appearing in PET or holding a score card gives you no claim to any post. Vacancy numbers appear only when UPSSSC advertises an individual recruitment — for example a Lekhpal or Junior Assistant notification — and at that stage your PET score decides whether you are shortlisted for the Main Exam.
If more than one of your PET scores is valid at the time of applying, you may use the highest valid normalised score.
The requirement is refreshingly low. This is a genuine chance for anyone looking at 10th pass government jobs.
Remember that the individual posts you later apply for will have their own, higher qualification requirements. PET only checks this minimum.

One honest caution here: the notification states that SC, ST, OBC and such other categories get relaxation “as specified by the Government” without printing a number of years. We are not going to guess a figure — check the official notification for the exact relaxation applicable to you.

PET itself carries no salary, because it is an eligibility test and not an appointment to any post. The notification prescribes no stipend, honorarium or payment for appearing in or clearing PET.
Your salary depends entirely on which post you later apply for using your PET score:
Think of PET as the entry ticket. It does not pay you anything, but without it you cannot even apply for the posts that do.
So treat PET as an investment of one exam attempt that opens three years’ worth of recruitment opportunities.
The paper is a single objective test with a clear, well-published marks distribution.
The exam has 100 objective multiple choice questions carrying 100 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. There is negative marking of one-fourth (¼) mark for every wrong answer. For the first nine subjects, the difficulty level is pegged at the Secondary and Senior Secondary standard prescribed by NCERT. The notification does not prescribe any minimum qualifying marks — PET produces a score, not a pass or fail.
If the number of applicants is very large and the exam has to be held across multiple shifts or days, the Commission applies its score normalisation process for fair comparative evaluation.

The PET 2026 application window closed on 7 September 2026; the steps below are kept for reference. Note the most important prerequisite: One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory. You must complete your OTR and make any corrections to it before starting your PET registration, because once your PET registration number is generated, your mobile number is locked. If your OTR was created from a PET-2025 registration number, your name and date of birth are locked as well.
Only these payment modes are permitted — no other method is accepted. Only the permissible fields could be corrected, and only until 8 September 2026 (now closed).
