Good news for engineering students who dream of wearing the uniform. The Indian Army has released the notification for the 145th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-145), which starts in July 2027 at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. There are 30 vacancies for unmarried male engineering graduates, leading to a Permanent Commission as a Lieutenant at Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500). The online application opens on 30 September 2026 at 1500 hrs and closes on 29 October 2026 at 1500 hrs. If you hold, or are in the final year of, a BE/B.Tech (or M.Sc Computer Science) in one of the notified streams and are 20 to 27 years old, this is for you. TGC is the Army’s direct entry for engineers. As per the notification, you are shortlisted on your degree marks and then judged at the Services Selection Board (SSB). Training is about 12 months at IMA, and the full cost of training is borne by the Government.

The notification gives vacancies stream-wise only. It does not give any category-wise break-up for UR, OBC, SC, ST or EWS.

These vacancies are tentative and may be changed or re-appropriated as per the Army’s needs. Candidates who are recommended but fall outside their stream’s vacancies may be offered the Short Service Commission (Tech) Course (October 2027), subject to eligibility and unused SSC(T) vacancies in their stream.
You need a BE/B.Tech or M.Sc Computer Science in one of the streams notified in Para 3 of the notification. This is a genuine engineering government job, and the stream list is strict: only the notified streams and their listed equivalents are accepted. A degree in any other stream is not eligible.

Final-year students can apply, but they must send proof of passing with marksheets of all semesters by 01 July 2027 and produce the degree certificate within 12 weeks of training starting at IMA. They join on an Additional Bond Basis, which means the cost of training, stipend and pay can be recovered if the degree certificate is not produced. To attend SSB, their cumulative percentage up to the 6th semester (8th semester for B.Arch, 2nd semester for M.Sc) must not be below the stream cut-off.
The degree must be from a university or institution recognised by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India, or a deemed/autonomous university under the UGC Act 1956, IIT Act 1961, AICTE Act 1987, NITSER Act 2007 or IIIT Act 2024.
You must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India. The last two groups need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India, except Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

The notification does not mention any age relaxation, so treat 27 as the limit. No other document for age is accepted, and no later request to change the date of birth will be considered.

During the full training period at IMA, Officer Cadets get a stipend of ₹56,100 per month (starting pay of Level 10). After commissioning, pay is fixed in the first cell of Level 10. The training period is not treated as commissioned service, but arrears of admissible allowances for it are paid.

Dearness Allowance is paid at the same rates as civilian employees, and field area, transport and children education allowances apply as per rules. Officers also get one year ante-date seniority for seniority, promotion and pay increment.

Those who fail Stage-1 are sent back the same day. Call letters come only by registered email and SMS. The SSB medical is valid for 270 days up to the joining date. No hard copy is to be sent to DG Recruiting. Keep one signed printout with a self-attested photo for SSB, and carry your original degree or provisional degree and all semester marksheets. Serving Armed Forces candidates must inform their Commanding Officer in writing and carry the countersigned application.
