IIT (BHU) Varanasi has opened Advertisement No. 03/2026-27 for 55 non-teaching posts across its Administrative, Technical, Library, Engineering (IWD) and Rajbhasha cadres. Two seats are reserved horizontally for PwBD candidates — one inside Junior Superintendent and one inside the Junior Technician group. These are counted within the totals above, not extra. The posts are reserved for OH, VI and HH candidates as notified; applicants of other special-ability categories may also apply, and if no suitable candidate of the notified category is available the seat may go to another special-ability category.
Most posts ask for 55% marks in the qualifying degree (Assistant Engineer and Junior Translation Officer are set by degree plus experience instead), and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent office software is compulsory for the administrative and technician posts.
| Post | Essential Requirement |

| Junior Engineer | B.E./B.Tech in Civil with 55% marks or an equivalent grade on the 10-point scale, plus 2 years’ experience, OR a 3-year diploma in Civil with 55% from a Govt.-recognised polytechnic plus 3 years’ experience |
| Junior Translation Officer | Bachelor’s degree in Hindi with 3 years’ English-Hindi translation experience after the degree in a Government, autonomous body, PSU or research organisation |
Notice the alternative route on Junior Technician Groups II to V, on Junior Engineer and on Assistant Engineer: a three-year diploma plus relevant experience is accepted in place of the degree. If you are a diploma holder, do not skip these posts. Equally, experienced graduates in any subject can go for Junior Superintendent, which is the biggest opening here with 21 of the 55 seats. Your degree must be from a recognised University or Institute, and every experience claim has to come on the Annexure-A certificate format printed in the notification.
Desirable qualifications can help at shortlisting:
| Post | Desirable |

| Junior Superintendent | Higher degree or PG diploma in a relevant discipline such as HR, Labour Laws, Financial Management, or inter ICWA/CA |
| Junior Library Assistant | Hands-on experience of computer applications in a library of repute |

The upper age is counted as on 24 September 2026, the original last date of online submission (the extension notice is silent on this cut-off). The notification does not prescribe any minimum age.

| Junior Superintendent | 35 years |

| Junior Library Assistant | 30 years |
| Assistant Engineer | 40 years |

Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India norms, and relaxations for persons with special-ability follow the GoI reservation policy. The notification does not print the category-wise number of years, so work out your exact age on 24 September 2026 first and then apply the standard relaxation for your category.

The Institute has reserved the right to apply more stringent criteria than the advertised ones at any stage of shortlisting, and applicants with higher qualification and merit may be preferred. The schedule for every stage is e-mailed to shortlisted candidates on their registered e-mail address, and no hard-copy call letter is sent — which is exactly why the notification insists on an active e-mail with free storage space.
Lists of shortlisted and non-shortlisted applicants, with application numbers and reasons for non-shortlisting, go up on the Institute website. If you want to object, your representation must reach the Institute within 5 days of that list being published. Prepare early with our syllabus and exam pattern guides.
These are the lines candidates skip, and each one can end your candidature.
