The Prelims was a screening test. As per the notification, candidates had to secure the minimum cut-off in each of the three tests, and an adequate number in each category was shortlisted for the Main exam depending on requirements. Prelims marks are not added to the final merit.
The exact Mains exam date is printed on your call letter; IBPS has not put it in a public notice we could read. The notification’s tentative schedule shows the Online Main Examination in October 2026 (tentative). Your call letter carries the exact date, session and venue, so download it and read the Information Handout carefully.
The notification says candidates will not be permitted to take the Main exam without these:
| Document | Rule |
|---|---|
| Main Exam call letter | Valid for your date and session |
| Prelims call letter | Authenticated / stamped copy |
| Copy of ID proof | Authenticated / stamped copy, brought along with the Prelims call letter |
| Original photo ID | Must carry the same name as on the call letter / application |
No hard copy of the call letter or Information Handout is sent by post or courier, so download it yourself. Candidates who opted for a scribe in the application fill in the scribe details while downloading the call letter, and must bring the downloaded scribe declaration form too. Only candidates who registered for compensatory time at the time of online registration will get it; others shall not be allowed that concession. If a scribe is found answering independently or prompting answers, the exam session will be terminated and the candidature cancelled.
Candidates reporting after the reporting time on the call letter will not be permitted to take the exam. Ration Card and Learner’s Driving Licence are not accepted as ID proof. Refusing biometric capture or verification may lead to cancellation of candidature. Any unruly behaviour or misbehaviour in the exam hall may result in cancellation of candidature and disqualification from this exam and future IBPS exams.
After the Main exam, each candidate needs a minimum score in each test and a minimum total score to be shortlisted for the Personality Test and Interview. The Personality Test is non-qualifying, but appearing in it is mandatory to be eligible for the Interview. Main exam scores are not shared with shortlisted candidates before the interview process is complete.

Along with the basic pay, officers also receive allowances and perquisites as per the rules of the Participating Bank.
Besides the money, a bank PO enjoys strong job security, medical benefits, and fast career growth. With good performance, you can rise to higher officer grades over the years. This mix of good salary, respect, and growth makes the banking sector a top career choice for graduates across India.
The selection happens in a few clear stages. You must clear each stage to move ahead to the next one:
Remember, your Preliminary Exam marks are only for screening — they are not added to the final merit. The final selection is based on Main Exam (80%) + Interview (20%). Each wrong answer in the objective tests costs one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question, so attempt carefully.
