Here is a special opportunity for science students who want a long-term career in uniform! The Indian Air Force (IAF) invited applications for Airmen in Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) Medical Assistant Trade, Intake 02/2027. Importantly, this is a regular Air Force enrolment with a 20-year tenure — it is not an Agniveer or short-term post. That makes it one of the most secure defence jobs available this year, with full pay, allowances and long service benefits.
Online registration ran from 6 July 2026 to 26 July 2026 and is now closed. The Phase-I online test was held on 22–23 September 2026, and the answer key is now out. This guide explains everything in simple words — eligibility tracks, age, pay, the remaining selection stages and key dates. Read it carefully and keep visiting GovtJobsAlert.in for every Air Force update.
Here is a quick snapshot of this recruitment. Unlike Agniveer entries, this is a permanent Airman role with a long, secure tenure.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Organisation | Indian Air Force (IAF) |
| Trade | Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) — Medical Assistant |
| Eligibility | 10+2 with PCB & English (50%); pharmacy track also needs Diploma / Degree |
| Pay | ₹14,600 (training) to ₹26,900 per month + allowances |
| Tenure | 20 years (regular service, not Agniveer) |
| Registration | 6 July to 26 July 2026 (closed) |
| Phase-I Online Test | 22–23 September 2026 |
| Current Stage | Answer key out — three-day objection window |
The Indian Air Force has not announced a fixed total number of vacancies for this trade. Selection is made against anticipated vacancies, and separate Provisional Select Lists are prepared for the 10+2 candidates and for the Diploma / B.Pharma / B.Sc Pharmacy candidates. So eligible candidates from both tracks have a fair chance based on merit.
There are two eligibility tracks with different subject and age rules. Your documents for the track you chose will be checked in detail at Phase-II.
| Track | Minimum Qualification |
|---|---|
| Medical Assistant (10+2) | 10+2 / Intermediate / equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English (50% aggregate, 50% English), or a two-year Vocational Course with these non-vocational subjects and the same marks |
| Medical Assistant (Pharmacist) | 10+2 / Intermediate / equivalent with PCB & English (50% aggregate, 50% English) + Diploma / B.Pharma / B.Sc in Pharmacy with 50% aggregate |
Candidates from the pharmacy track must hold valid registration from the State Pharmacy Council or Pharmacy Council of India at the time of enrolment. Only Education Boards recognised by the Central, State or UT governments are accepted. Percentages are not rounded off — 49.99% counts as 49%. If you are exploring medical and healthcare government jobs, this is a strong long-term option.
The age rules differ by track. Only the dates of birth listed below are eligible (both dates inclusive):
| Track | Date of Birth |
|---|---|
| 10+2 track (unmarried only) | 01 July 2006 to 01 July 2010 |
| Pharmacy track (unmarried) | 01 July 2003 to 01 July 2008 |
| Pharmacy track (married) | 01 July 2003 to 01 July 2006 |
On the date of enrolment, the upper age limit is 21 years for the 10+2 track and 24 years for the pharmacy track. Unmarried candidates cannot marry until their initial training is complete.
Physical fitness is essential for selection. Shortlisted candidates should confirm these basic standards before Phase-II.
| Standard | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Height | Minimum 152 cm |
| Chest | Minimum 77 cm with at least 5 cm expansion |
| Vision | 6/36 each eye, correctable to 6/6; refractive error within ±3.50D |
| Colour Vision | CP-II |
| Hearing & Dental | Normal hearing; minimum 14 dental points |
| Not Accepted | History of LASIK / PRK; orthodontic appliances |
Final medical fitness is decided by the Medical Board.
Because this is a regular Air Force enrolment, the pay follows the normal Airman pay structure — much more than a short-term stipend. This long-term financial security is a big advantage.
| Stage | Pay |
|---|---|
| During Training | ₹14,600 per month (stipend) |
| After Training (starting) | ₹26,900 per month gross (including Military Service Pay) + Dearness Allowance |
Airmen also receive Transport Allowance, ration, medical facilities, accommodation, 60 days annual leave, LTC and a Group Insurance Cover of ₹62.5 lakh. Dearness Allowance may rise with career progression over the 20-year service.
The selection runs in three phases. Phase-I is over, so shortlisted candidates should now prepare for Phase-II; you can also review general exam syllabus and pattern guidance.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Phase-I — Online Test (held 22–23 Sept 2026) | 45 minutes; English and Reasoning & General Awareness; +1 correct, 0 unattempted, -0.25 wrong; each paper must be qualified separately |
| Phase-II — at Airmen Selection Centre | Document check, Physical Fitness Test, Adaptability Test-I and Adaptability Test-II |
| Phase-III — Medical Examination | By the Air Force Medical Team, including baseline tests |
| PFT Part | Requirement |
|---|---|
| PFT-I: 1.6 km run (up to 21 years) | Within 7 minutes |
| PFT-I: 1.6 km run (above 21, pharmacy track) | Within 7 minutes 30 seconds |
| PFT-II | 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 20 squats — one minute each |
Phase-I marks may be normalised, and the cut-off for Phase-II is applied on normalised marks. The Phase-I result and Phase-II shortlist will be uploaded in your candidate login. Final selection is based on merit through a Provisional Select List, subject to medical fitness and vacancy availability.
